TOPICS OF GLOBAL IMPORTANCE

Every year Danish Cleantech Hub selects a new topic for the conference that we find to be of global importance and that has the potential to positively affect the sustainability and prosperity of cities. Previous topics include Cities for Global Impact and Urban Innovation for Livable Cities.

This year we are taking on Circular Economy, as we believe this global megatrend will become the future paradigm of sustainability. As Climate Week NYC coincides with the General Assembly of the UN, the conference will, in line with previous years, also draw parallels to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY - SPURRING THE CHANGE

The event will provide unique insights into how prominent and innovative global circular economy champions have taken it upon themselves to spur change. Our goal is to demystify the paradigm and provide attendees with concrete tools to make circular economy actionable. We are therefore convening global frontrunners and thought leaders with first-hand experience and in-depth knowledge on the many aspects of circularity to speak at the conference.

Circular economy in Denmark encompasses an enormous potential for inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Businesses, industry, and policy-makers are continuously realizing the advantages of moving towards a circular economy, as it creates employment opportunities, increases GDP and exports, optimizes resource consumption, and reduces production costs. This conference will make these benefits concrete and tangible to the audience.

Panel 1: Closing the Loop with Partnerships

It is time to come full circle - transform supply chain operations to build a network of partners, suppliers, and markets that fully capitalize on circularity. To capture the full potential of the circular economy in supply chain operations, companies need to pursue higher - and often more complex - value initiatives and collaborations. Partnerships can be key to overcoming misaligned incentive structures, legislative barriers, financial hurtles, and to create R&D programs.

The efforts made by the private sector to pioneer the transition towards circularity is a very promising global trend. Global industry leaders have come to see that circular economy offers new business opportunities as well as the potential for greater economic growth. Through innovative business models, corporations are changing how they design products and materials, increase reuse, and create takeback systems. Increasing circularity within a business is not an easy task – but the reward for those who succeed is significant!
